LA MIRADA, Calif. - Unfortunately a big second quarter for Biola played the difference in the Nanooks' loss to the Eagles of Biola on Friday, Nov. 10. Despite a strong second-half, the Nanooks fell 73-58 and dropped to 0-4, 0-0 GNAC on the season.
The Nanooks came out strong offensively in the opening quarter, outshooting Biola 53% to 35%. After the Nanooks took a 19-18 lead after the opening 10-minutes, the Eagles responded with a 6-8 performance from deep in the second quarter to outscore Alaska 24-7 in the second, heading into halftime with a 41-25 lead. Alaska only managed one field goal in the second, shooting 1-14 from the floor and 0-3 from deep. They managed 5-6 from the free-throw line for the majority of their points in the second.
Out of the break, the Nanooks refound their stride and shot 53% from the floor and knocked down their first threes of the day. Biola would maintain the lead heading into the fourth and a fourth-quarter win for the 'Nooks was not enough to complete a comeback. Alaska outscored the Eagles 14-9 in the fourth but fell by 15.
Destiny Reimers had her best game of the young season as the junior posted 20 points on 7-10 shooting from the floor. She knocked down two of her three-point attempts, went 4-5 from the charity stripe, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists.
Ellen Silva had 11 points on 4-6 shooting while grabbing six boards.
Emma Wass had a near double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. She also shot 4-6 from the floor.
Alaska is back in action at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon against Concordia Irvine.
