FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks rifle team opened up their 2023-24 season at TVSA, hosting Ohio State. With the win, they move to 1-0, 1-0 PRC on the season. 

The Nanooks grabbed the win 4722-4708, taking the win in both disciplines. In smallbore, the Nanooks outshot the Buckeyes 2347-2335. In air, Alaska edged out Ohio State 2375-2373 to get the 14-point aggregate win. 

Viktor Kiss of OSU picked up the individual win, posting a score of 1186 with a 589 in smallbore and 597 in air rifle. Sára Karasová took second, leading the Nanooks in the individual standings with an aggregate score of 1184. She fired a 588 in smallbore and a 596 in air. Rachael Charles followed in third, scoring 1183 in the aggregate scoring. She shot a 590 in smallbore before firing off a 593 in air. Marina Gonzalez Mazo rounded out the top-five finishes for Alaska with a score of 1178. She had a 584 in smallbore before posting a 594 in air. 

Elli Spencer took seventh with an 1170, shooting a 585 in both air and smallbore. Tobias Bernhoft-Osa was the final Nanook shooter in the top-10. The sophomore fired an 1167 aggregate score; 575 in smallbore and 592 in air. Matthew Stout, the final Nanooks shooter, shot an aggregate of 1160 with a 573 in smallbore and 587 in air. 

Charles took first in the smallbore standings, posting a top-score of 590 (40x), beating Kiss of OSU by one point. Karasová took third with a 588 (41x). Spencer took fourth with a 585 (38x) and Gonzalez Mazo took fifth with a 584 (34x). Bernhoft-Osa and Matthew Stout rounded out the Nanooks shooters with scores of 575 and 573, taking 10th and 11th. In air rifle, the Nanooks were led by Karasová, who fired a 596, good for second in the air rifle standings. She posted a 49x count. Gonzalez Mazo followed in third-place with a 594 (50x). Rachael Charles rounded out the top-five with a 593 (48x). Tobias Bernhoft-Osa finished the day with a 592 (48x) round in air for a seventh-place finish. Stout and Spencer were the final Nanooks in the standings, taking 11th and 12th with scores of 587 (42x) and 585 (40x). 

The Nanooks and Buckeyes matchup again tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range in the Patty Center.
