Alaska Men's Basketball Unveils 2022-23 Season Schedule

The 2022 GNAC Tournament Champions will open their season on the road before opening up at home on Nov. 25 in a Nanooks-hosted Thanksgiving Tournament.

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team has announced their 2022-23 season schedule. Alongside their 18 GNAC conference games, the Nanooks will play eight non-conference games at three separate preseason tournaments. 

We are looking forward for the kick-off of our 2022-23 season." Said head coach Greg Sparling, "We are excited to start the season with two scrimmages again the Seattle Mountaineers. It will give our fans a chance to see all our new faces before hitting the road. Our schedule will definitely challenge our young team night in and night out; it will be a tough schedule and it will challenge us early with west region road games. We are looking forward to playing more home games this year in front of our fans in the Patty Center."

Unofficially, the Nanooks will open their season on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29 with two scrimmages against a traveling team, the Seattle Mountaineers. Game one is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff. Game two's start time is TBA. The regular-season will officially begin with the Alaska/Hawaii Challenge in Honolulu. On Nov. 11, the Nanooks will open up at Hawaii Pacific before taking on Chaminade the following day, Nov. 12. The following week, the Nanooks will head to the Bay Area for the Cal State Monterey Invite. They will play on Nov. 18-19 before coming home to begin their home-schedule. 

This season, the Nanooks will host a Thanksgiving tournament. Three teams will come north; Alaska Anchorage, Texas A&M Int'l and Westminster. The 'Nooks will play Texas A&M Int'l and Westminster on Nov. 25-26 with times TBA. Following the tournament, the Nanooks will welcome Seattle Pacific and Montana State Billings to the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium for their GNAC openers. Alaska and SPU will open up conference play on Dec. 1 with a 7:30 p.m. tip. MSUB and Alaska will meet two days later on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 5:15 p.m. Two weeks later, the Nanooks will host two non-conference games against Portland Bible College on Dec. 16-17 with game one scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Game two's start time is TBA.

The second-half of the season will start with a bang as the 'Nooks will travel to Anchorage for a matchup with their in-state rivals, UAA on Dec. 31 at 7:00 p.m. Following the start of the new year, Alaska will stay on the road, heading to Northwest Nazarene on Jan. 5 and Central Washington on Jan. 7. They'll return home for matchups on Jan. 12/14 with Simon Fraser and Western Washington University before hitting the road one last time in January. Jan. 19/21 will see the Nanooks at Saint Martin's University and Western Oregon. 

Jan. 28 will see UAA come to town for the second matchup of in-state rivals. That game is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. The next week, Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene will come to the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium for games on Feb. 2/4. The Nanooks will then head to the Pacific Northwest for matchups with Western Washington on Feb. 9 and Simon Fraser on Feb. 11. They'll come home one final time and play Western Oregon on Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. before celebrating Senior Day on Feb. 18 against Saint Martin's at 3:15 p.m.

To end the year, the 'Nooks will head to MSUB on Feb. 23 and SPU on Feb. 25.

Dates and times are subject to change. Season-tickets and single-game ticketing information will release at a later date.
