FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks swim team has announced their upcoming 2022-23 season. The Nanooks are coming off of a 4-4, 2-2 PCSC dual meet record that saw them begin the season 4-0, the best start in program history since it's rebirth in 2005.
"I am very excited for this season to get underway!" Says coach Kelsey Leeson, "We are looking forward to traveling to California to go against Westmont as well as for our Mid-Season meet in November and Conference Championships in February. This season we will welcome both Azusa Pacific and Westmont to Fairbanks. They are great competitors and we always enjoy going up against them. I can't wait to see what our Nook Swimmers will accomplish this year!"Â
The Nanooks will host their annual Blue/Gold Meet on Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1 with their Friday meet beginning at 5:00 p.m. and their Saturday meet beginning at 10:00 a.m. They'll then welcome Azusa Pacific for their official regular-season opener on Friday, Oct. 21. APU and Alaska will battle a second time on Saturday, Oct. 22 with a 10:00 a.m. meet. The Nanooks will continue their PCSC schedule with a trip to Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Oct. 28-29. After a two-week break, the 'Nooks will head back to Southern California for the La Verne Invite at East LA College. The three-day event will last from Nov. 11-13 and wrap up the 2022 portion of the schedule.Â
The next meet for the Nanooks following holiday break will come on Friday, Jan. 20 as Westmont will head north for a 5:00 p.m. start before a 10:00 a.m. start on Saturday, Jan. 21. They will celebrate Senior Day against Westmont as they close out their regular-season before PCSC Conference Championships.Â
All PCSC schools will meet in Los Angeles, Calif. at East LA College for the 2023 Pacific Coast Swimming and Diving Conference Championships from Feb. 8-11. The Nanooks used a final-day push to take seventh-place at the 2022 PCSC Championships for the second-straight season.Â
