FRESNO, Calif. – The Alaska Nanooks swimming team began its 2025-26 season with a 144-61 dual win over Fresno Pacific on Friday afternoon, winning 10 out of the 11 events swam during the meet.
The day began with the 'Nooks posting the top two finishes in the 400-yard medley relay, with the team of McKenzie Fazio, Dorka Dancsok, Cosima Schmiedel and Janci Pangburn finishing at the front of the pack by over eight seconds, clocking in at 4:03.65. The first individual event was the 1650-yard freestyle, where Kitti Marton completed her race nearly a minute ahead of second place, posting a time of 18:23.05. Alaska took the top three spots in the next event, with Fazio (2:03.15), MacKenzie O'Keefe (2:03.92) and Schmiedel (2:04.27) finishing 1-2-3 in the 200-yard freestyle. The 'Nooks would finish 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle, as Talia Wentz placed first after posting a 25.11, while Mariia Sirotinskaia followed in second with a 26.21. Dancsok picked up one of her two victories in the 200-yard IM, recording a time of 2:13.50 to finish over three seconds in front of second place.
Schmiedel (1:01.15) and Pangburn (54.60) notched individual wins in the 100-yard butterfly and freestyle, respectively, before FPU's Charlotte Wilbers grabbed the win in the 100-yard backstroke. Marton followed with a 5:22.50 in the 500-yard freestyle, giving the swimmer her second win of the afternoon. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Dancsok would also take her second victory of the day, once again finishing over three seconds in frontof second with a 1:07.38. The meet concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay, where the team of Fazio, Wentz, Sirotinskaia and Pangburn claimed Alaska's 10th victory by finishing the relay in 3:44.85.
The Nanooks are back in the pool at 8 a.m. AKT tomorrow for another dual meet against the Sunbirds.
