FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball program has announced the addition of Isaac Garcia for the 2022-23 season. Garcia, a native of Fairbanks, comes back to Alaska after spending the previous two years with the Peninsula Pirates in the NWAC.
"Isaac comes home to Fairbanks; a Monroe Catholic graduate who last season at Peninsula College was the Defensive Player of the Year in the NWAC's North Region." Said head basketball coach Greg Sparling, "He had an outstanding high school career under Head Coach Frank Ostanik learning and understanding the game. At Peninsula under Head Coach Donald Rollman, he was able to excel in his role as their top-defender. He is going to bring a level of toughness and inspiration to our program. We are excited for him personally to get to play in front of friends and family. It's special for young men to play for their home team, so we as a staff were excited to offer Isaac this opportunity. He is a determined young man that we are privileged to have in our Nanook program."
In his first season with Peninsula, Garcia played in 17 games, starting in 10 of them. He saw 15.8 minutes per game while shooting 38.5% from the field, 40% from three and 85.7% from the free-throw line. He also scored 3.4 points per game. Garcia grabbed 1.7 rebounds a game, 1.2 assists per game and 0.6 steals per game as a freshman. In his second season, the 2021-22 year, Garcia played in 25 games and started in 22. He saw 22 minutes per game while scoring 4.9 points per game on 33.3% shooting from the field, 31.1% from three and 66.7% shooting from the free throw line.
He grabbed 2.8 rebounds per game, had 1.1 assists and averaged one steal per game during his final season with the Pirates. Prior to joining the Pirates, Garcia played at Monroe High School in Fairbanks.
