Swim Heads to California for the La Verne Invitational at ELAC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Alaska Nanooks swim team hits the road once again during the 2022-23 season this weekend. They head to La Verne, Calif., for the three-day La Verne Invite.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks traveled for their road-opener on the weekend of Oct. 27-28. The Nanooks were welcomed by Westmont College to Santa Barbara. Westmont took the day one win 97-94 and the day two victory 104-99. On the first day, the Nanooks had five wins, three second-place finishes and five third-place finishes. On day two, the Nanooks posted eight second-place finishes, five first-place finishes and two wins.

  • Alaska competed at the La Verne Invite last season, finishing eighth-place with 470 team points.
  • The Nanooks grabbed five event wins on both day one and two against Westmont. 
  • The prelims will begin at 9:00 a.m. all three days this weekend. Dive competition will begin at noon, giving the 'Nooks finals qualifiers a break. Finals on all three days are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. AKT. 
  • On day one Payton Wojciechowicz won the 500y free and the 1650y free, Lainey Lioi won the 100y back, Sophia Ruppert won the 100y fly and the Nanooks won the 400y free relay. 
  • On day two Lainey Lioi grabbed a win in the 100y free, Wojciechowicz won in the 1000y free, Camille Dayton won in the 200y back, Sophia Ruppert grabbed a win in the 200y fly and Alaska won the final event, the 200y medley relay. 
 
Looking Ahead
After this weekend's three-day matchup with the Warriors, the Nanooks will have break until the new year. Alaska competed at the La Verne Invite last season, finishing eighth-place with 470 team points. The trip to the La Verne Invite will end the Nanooks 2022 portion of the schedule. They'll head into holiday break and come back home for the start of the 2023 on Jan. 20-21, 2023, in the Patty Center Pool against the Westmont Warriors, completing their four-meet season-matchup. 
 
After celebrating seniors on Jan. 21, 2023, the Nanooks will head to the Pacific Coast Swimming and Diving Conference Championships on Feb. 8-11 in Los Angeles, Calif. at the East LA College Pool. The Nanooks took seventh at last year's conference championships, earning 405.5 points as a team.
