#NookNotes
  • The Nanooks started the year with one of the toughest teams in the Division II women's rankings. APU entered October receiving two votes in the CSCAA Top-25.
  • These two teams met twice a season ago and twice during the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season. Last year, the Nanooks defeated Westmont on the road with a day two final of 242-164.
  • In the 2020-21 season, the Nanooks defeated Westmont in a dual-meet 106.50-79.50; a day after beating Westmont and Loyola Marymount in a tri-meet, 128-71.
  • Cameron Valent grabbed a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday, Oct. 21 with a time of 1:14.01, earning nine points for the Nanooks. She beat fellow Nanooks Caroline McCormick (second - 1:17.39) and Kyleigh McArthur (third - 1:17.89).
  • In the final event of day one, a 400-yard freestyle relay team made up of Adeline Berry, Lainey Lioi, Shannon McCallum and Sophia Ruppert took the top-spot with a time of 3:46.62, claiming 11 points for the Nanooks.
  • Sophia Ruppert grabbed the Nanooks first win of day two in the sixth event; the 200-yard butterfly. Ruppert won it over APU's Marcelina Halawczak by over three full seconds. She posted a winning time of 2:13.15, earning the 'Nooks nine points.
  • Naomi Burgan took first in the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 2:41.93 to earn nine points for Alaska.
  • Finally, the Nanooks 200-yard freestyle relay team made up of Berry, Lioi, McCallum and Ruppert took the win with a time of 1:44.97 to grab the Nanooks final 11 points of the day.
Looking Ahead
After this weekend's two-day matchup with the Warriors, the Nanooks will have a three-week break before heading back to SoCal for the La Verne Invite from Nov. 18-20 at East LA College. Alaska competed at the La Verne Invite last season, finishing eighth-place with 470 team points. The trip to the La Verne Invite will end the Nanooks 2022 portion of the schedule. They'll head into holiday break and come back home for the start of the 2023 on Jan. 20-21, 2023 in the Patty Center Pool against the Westmont Warriors, completing their four-meet season-matchup.

After celebrating seniors on Jan. 21, 2023, the Nanooks will head to the Pacific Coast Swimming and Diving Conference Championships on Feb. 8-11 in Los Angeles, Calif. at the East LA College Pool. The Nanooks took seventh at last years conference championships, earning 405.5 points as a team.
