FAIRBANKS -
Emma Corby, graduate-student for the Alaska Nanooks swim team, was named the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference DII Swimmer of the Week.
This past weekend, the Nanooks swim team swam two dual-meets versus Incarnate Word. Despite falling in both meets, Corby picked up six top-two finishes. She placed first in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:57.12 on the first day of the two meets. In the seventh-event of day one, Corby took second in the 100-yard free, posting a time of 55.30. She finished day one with another second-place finish, this one on the 400-yard freestyle relay team. She swam the first leg as the team posted a 3:46.70.
On day two, Corby's strong outing in the pool continued. She finished the 400-yard IM in second, posting a time of 4:47.11. In her second-to-last event, the 500-yard freestyle, Corby raced to a time of 5:26.98, good for second place. Finally, in the 200-yard freestyle relay, Corby swam the first leg and helped the Nanooks relay team to one final second-place finish with a time of 1:41.86.
"The PCSC Swimmer of the Week nomination and honor are very well deserved for Emma after her great performances versus Incarnate Word last weekend." stated head coach
Kelsey Leeson, "She placed first in the 200-free with a season-best time, and second in the 100 free, 400 IM and 500 free. She also helped the 200 and 400 freestyle relays to second-place finishes. I am very proud of Emma and all of her hard work!"
The Nanooks return to action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29. They'll host Loyola Marymount at the Patty Center Pool.
