The Gold team went 2-0 on the weekend at the Blue/Gold games in the Carlson Center. Night one was an unorthodox two-period, 25 minute, running-clock game that ended in a 4-2 win for Gold while night two was a full three-period scrimmage that ended in a Gold win.
In the opening period, Gold was able to find the back of the net twice. Only 3:02 into the first,
Payton Matsui squeezed one past Gustavs Grigals, in net for Blue, making it an early 1-0 lead for Gold. Later in the first, with 4:20 left on the clock,
Anton Rubtsov was put in the penalty box for Gold for holding. This allowed Blue back in it as quickly into their man-advantage,
Chase Dubois knotted the score at 1-1 taking the cross-ice pass from Filip Fornaa Svensson and finding the open net from the face-off circle.
Unfortunately for Blue, that tie did not last long as just before the intermission horn,
Connor Mylymok grabbed the lead back, scoring off passes from
Simon Falk and
Colin Doyle.
Nobody scored in the second period as Gold took a 2-1 lead into the final intermission.
Despite starting the third on the power play, Gold was not able to play add-on as Blue killed the penalty. Soon after, 5:31 into the third period, Nátán Vertes took a pass in front of the crease and snuck one past
Austin Ryman in net, making it 3-1 Gold. An empty-netter from
Eriks Zohovs made it 4-1 late in the third as Gold took the second night victory after winning in the two-period Blue/Gold game the night before.
Didrik Henbrant took home the fastest skater award while
Daniel Allin took home the goalie challenge championship.
