Matsui joined the Nanooks after spending the 2020-21 season with the Aberdeen Wings in the NAHL. In 56 games he scored 65 points on 27 goals and 38 assists. He led the NAHL in points scored for 20-21, was the NAHL Central Forward of the Year, NAHL All-Central Division Team member, NAHL First All-Star Team selection and NAHL Forward of the Year.Â
