Swim Set to Compete at PCSC Championships this Week

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanook swim team is in Irvine, Calif. for the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships this week. The Alaska swim schedule will conclude following the PCSC Championships.

Last Time Out
The Nanook swim team is coming off of their one season event outside of the PCSC Championships. Three weeks ago, Alaska took to California to face-off with Westmont College and Loyola Marymount. In their season-opener, the 'Nooks knocked-off Westmont in a dual-meet, 128-71. They then knocked-off Westmont again in a tri-meet the following day, beating the Warriors 106.5-79.5 before falling to Loyola Marymount 70-116.

Westmont Scoring
Oda Bygdnes picked up two finals wins at Westmont vs. Westmont and LMU. She tallied a 54.83 in the 100-yard freestyle and a 59.66 in the 100-yard butterfly for her two wins. Over the span of the weekend, Bygdnes was also the high-points scorer, picking-up a total of 551.3 in her average performance points.  Next in line was Erika Kakazu who finished with one second place finish. She tallied an average performance score of 430.0, good enough for the 13th best finish. Tori Shoemaker was the only other 'Nook to finish in the top-15, averaging 417.0 in her three events. Shoemaker grabbed a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. 
 
Record Holder
Oda Bygdnes currently holds two records for the Alaska Nanooks swim team. In the 50-yard butterfly, the senior from Harstad, Norway posted a 24.76 at the 2019 Pepperdine Winter Invitational. Her second team record is in the 100-yard IM. On Feb. 17, 2018 at the 2018 PCSC Championships, Bygdnes broke the previous record with a time of 58.31.

We are very excited about competing in the PCSC Championships this week. Everything has gone smoothly so far and our women are excited to show all of the work they've put in this year. We cannot put into words how truly appreciative we are of this opportunity and are excited to represent the UAF community. We look forward to seeing how our results come out and are proud of our seniors for their dedication during their time at UAF.
