LIMA, Peru – Gavin Barnick and
Rylan Kissell competed in the men's three-position 50-meter rifle at the Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru. Both qualified for the finals and Barnick claimed the bronze medal.

Will Anti, excitedly, "Gavin and Rylan both had strong performances that resulted in finals berths. The work they did in slings leading up to this match really came through. Gavin finished his qualification with a brilliant 99 in his last string of standing which vaulted him up the board and ultimately secured him a spot in the final."

In qualifiers, Barnick shot an 1168 49x, placing him in 6
th-place. Kissell followed just behind shooting an 1167 53x giving him an 8
th-place finish in qualifiers. The top-eight advance to the finals and in the finals, their scores reset to 0. After his 8
th-place finish in qualifiers, Kissell shot his way to a 5
th-place finish, posting a score of 426.0 in the finals before being eliminated. As for Barnick, he shot his way to a third-place bronze medal finish before being eliminated with a score of 446.6.Â

"In the final, both shooters hung in against a really strong field." Said Anti, "Rylan was shooting a lot of close shots but couldn't get a lot to go in during standing – but he still managed a 5
th-place finish. Another great match performance for him in Peru. Gavin plotted his way up the board throughout the final and stayed really gritty in standing. His medal represents years of work and is a great result in his first start as a Nanook."

As for the rest of the field, there were three Americans in the final, however, Barnick and Kissell ended as the two top Americans in the final. With the bronze medal to Barnick, that now gives Nanook-representatives three medals at this years World Championships.Â
