Hockey Knocks-Off #20/RV Clarkson for First Win of the Season

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team knocked-off the Clarkson Golden Knights on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2-1 giving the 'Nooks their first win of the season.

After falling in game one, Alaska bounced back, grabbing a goal from Brady Risk while down a man before Filip Fornaa Svensson, while on a power play, made it 2-0, scoring the game-winning goal. Late in the second, 19:38 into the period, the Nanooks took the lead. Payton Matsui intercepted the puck and found Brady Risk slashing to the front of the net, giving both their first points of their collegiate careers. The 1-0 lead was taken into the third.

Midway through the third, Filip Fornaa Svensson found the back of the net, assisted by Risk and Roberts Kalkis. Off of a rebound in front of the net, Fornaa Svensson made it 2-0, 11:44 into the third. This proved to be the game-winner as Clarkson added one with 1:14 left on the clock when Zach Tsekos snuck one past Gustavs Grigals despite a broken stick on the shot.

The Nanooks escaped with the win after Clarkson scored and forced shots on goal in the final minute. Grigals stood strong in net, allowing one goal but saving 26.

The Nanooks are on the road next weekend at Omaha.
