FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team and head coach
Brian Scott have announced their signing class for the upcoming 2020 season. The class features five student-athletes.
The five athletes that are set to become Nanooks in the fall of 2020 are; Ashlee Adams, Marine Angely, Danielle Dodge, Miya Ohms and Rilee White.
Ashlee Adams
Adams will join the Nanooks volleyball team from Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Wash. She is a 5'6" libero and she has dreams of becoming a teacher or dental assistant. Adams graduated from Firth High School in Firth, Idaho where she was a three-sport athlete. Alongside volleyball she played basketball and softball. She was a 3x District Champion in high school and was named the Conference Player of the Year for 2016-17. At the community college level, Adams boasted a career-high 27 digs in one game.
Marine Angely
Angely joins Alaska from the Florida State College at Jacksonville. She spent one season at FSCJ after spending her freshman year at Xavier of Louisiana and after growing up in Sivry, France. Angely, an OH/OPP is 5'11" and was a part of the Xavier of Louisiana team that won the Gulf Coast Atlantic Conference Championship in 2018 and was an FCSAA All-Conference First Team selection in 2019 while at FSCJ. Last season, Marine tallied 279 kills in 23 matches, and held a .308 hit percentage on the season. She intends to major in Business Administration and minor in Marketing.
Danielle Dodge
Dodge is the second libero in the incoming class for the Nanooks. She is also the third junior-college transfer to join
Brian Scott's Alaska squad. Dodge hails from Topeka, Kansas and comes up to Fairbanks from Coffeyville Community College. In 2018, Dodge was a NJCAA National Champion. She was also named a one-time Conference Player of the Week winner as well as an NJCAA National Defensive Player of the Week. After the 2019 season, Dodge was named to the All-Conference and All-District Team's and she was named Captain of the team. Prior to Coffeyville, Danielle was at Washburn Rural High School where she helped her team make it to the State Tournament three of her four seasons, and claiming a 3
rd place finish her senior year. She plans to major in Wildlife Biology and Conservation at UAF.
Miya Ohms
Ohms will be joining the Nanooks from Taichung, Taiwan. She is a 5'9" OH who will be entering her freshman year in the fall of 2020. Ohms spent the previous four years at the Morrison Academy of Taichung, competing in the Asia Christian Schools Conference. She was a three-sport athlete, playing volleyball, basketball and soccer. In between sports, she managed to also be a part of the track and field team. In 2018 she was named the ACSC Top Hitter. She was also named to the All-Tournament team while also winning the All-Tournament MVP in 2019. She helped Morrison Academy win the ACSC Volleyball Championship in 2016, 2018 and 2019. In her senior season she recorded 392 kills. Ohms looks forward to majoring in Media Production.
Rilee White
White is the final signee for the upcoming 2020 season. She joins the Nanooks from The Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies. She spent all four years playing for the Minotaurs in Buckeye, Ariz. And plans on majoring in Environmental Sciences. She also played for the East Valley Juniors Volleyball Club for five years as an OH, reaching the USAV National Championships at both the Open and National levels. During her high school career, White was named Player of the Week of Arizona by MaxPreps and AVCA in 2018-19 and 2019-20. She was also named the Team MVP from 2016-2020. White helped her team make the State Tournament semi-finals in 2019-20, where they ended with a 30-5 record. She graduated with 1491 career kills, 1012 career digs and 91 career blocks.
Head coach
Brian Scott had this to say about his incoming class, "We are very excited about this group of athletes and how they will fit into our program. The experience and skills they bring will add to the culture and competition we have developed within our program over the past few years. All of these athletes have competed at the highest level within their respective conference, school, and club affiliations and will be able to have a significant impact on our program. We are looking forward to being in the gym and raising the bar for our program with the addition of these new athletes to our talented returning squad."
