@NanooksRifle Fourth Going Into Day Two of PRC Championships

FT. WORTH, Texas. – The No. 14-ranked Alaska Nanook Rifle team took fourth in the smallbore competition during the opening day of the 2020 Patriot Rifle Conference Championships hosted by Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, TX. The Nanooks tallied a team total of 2296, falling to the No. 2 TCU Horned Frogs (2340), No. 6 Air Force Falcons (2314), and the No. 13 Ohio State Buckeyes (2310) No. 13 Ohio State Buckeyes (2310) who placed first through third, respectively.

In the qualification match sophomore, Kellen McAferty, led the Nanooks recording an impressive 581 also securing a 6th place finish overall. Junior, Jessica Boyce, followed McAferty firing a 575 and senior, Amy Gentry, recorded a 573.

McAferty was the only Nanook to move into the eight-person final. McAferty had a strong showing, staying in the top four for the entire final. The sophomore earned the silver medal spot, after falling in a shoot-out to Air Force's Peter Fiori, who kept his PRC smallbore champion title. Ohio State's Ariel Hall took bronze.

The Nanooks return to action tomorrow, February 16th for day two of the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships. The teams will compete in the air rifle discipline tomorrow with relays starting at 4:45am, 6:35am and 8:25am AKST. Finals will begin at 10:15am AKST with an awards ceremony to follow.
