FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks rifle team takes off to Texas this week for both their final PRC matchup with the Air Force Academy and the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks are shooting for the first time since the Palmyra Invitational on Jan. 19. In the tri-match against Georgia Southern and North Georgia, the 'Nooks came out on top, firing a score of 4620 over North Georgia's 4547 and Georgia Southern's 4475. All six Alaska shooter finished in the top 10 of the invitational with
Kellen McAferty leading the way. He shot an aggregate of 1169, followed closely by
Haley Castillo, who shot an 1157.
Jessica Boyce and
Cassidy Wilson placed fourth and fifth overall with final aggregates of 1153 and 1145. In the smallbore competition,
Amy Gentry grabbed fifth place, shooting a 569.
Rematch Time
The Nanooks and the Air Force face-off earlier this season on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019. The Falcons grabbed the win over the 'Nooks at the United States Air Force Academy Rifle Range. AFA picked up the 4644-4679 victory handing the Nanooks their second loss of the season. The Nanooks went on to grab one more PRC victory against Ohio State after their loss to the Falcons. As for Air Force, they grabbed two more wins, one at the University of Akron in a non-conference match and then versus UTEP in Columbus, Ohio. They fell in their last match, against Ohio State, 4644-4663.
Scouting the Opponent – Air Force
The Falcons have a solid core of shooters consisting of six sharpshooters. First is Peter Fiori from Lebanon, New Jersey. The sophomore is averaging 1178.75. Next is Logan Ogden from Gallway, New York, and the senior has put up a solid season, averaging 1173 in his scores. Nate Peterson and Maliya Hillman are a pair of shooters who are averaging 1158 and 1153.75 on the season.
Rounding out the scouting report on the Air Force Academy are Devin Schwindt and Jordan Williams. The two shooters are currently tied for individual averages, putting up an 1151.625.
