CSCAA Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The College Swimming and Diving Coaches of Association (CSCAA) has named Alaska Nanooks swimming's incoming sophomore Kaia Norbye a Scholar All-America Honorable Mention for the 2018-19 season. Norbye is one of 890 honorable mention selections with 1,221 swimmers earning first-team status through all NCAA divisions, while also including NAIA and NJCAA student-athletes.

In order to be named a CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention, swimmers had to achieve a GPA of 3.50 or better and achieve at least one NCAA "B" cut standard time or compete at an NCAA Regional qualifier. To be a first-team selection, student-athletes had to achieve a GPA of 3.50 or higher and competed at their respective NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships.

Norbye, a Psychology major at UAF, earned a 3.51 cumulative GPA following her first year in Fairbanks.

Norbye earned one NCAA "B" cut individually in the pool this past season, collecting a time of 23.48 in the 50-yard freestyle race at the Husky Invitational on Nov. 30. The Karasjok, Norway native was named the Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 23 before earning the Alaska swim team's Dr. William Wood Scholar-Athlete of the Year award at the Alaska Nanooks student-athlete awards banquet.

Last month, the Alaska Nanooks women's swimming team was named a Scholar All-America Team for the spring 2019 semester by the CSCAA with a team GPA of 3.22.
