FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Friday, Alaska Nanooks associate head swimming coach Becca Weiland announced the addition of Kyleigh McArthur, who signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Nanooks swimming program in the fall of 2019.

"We are thrilled to announce that we will add Kyleigh McArthur to our roster for the 2019-20 season," Weiland said. "Kyleigh will be an incredibly advantageous in-state pick up for us. Coming up from Sitka, Kyleigh will graduate for a 4.0 GPA and times that will score some major points for us in the sprint freestyle events, as well as help our relays get to the national level. With the tenacious work ethic that I've already seen from this young lady, I am confident that she will be a game changer for the Nanook swim program."

11306A native of Sitka, McArthur comes to the Nanooks with three Alaska School Activities Association State Swimming and Diving Championship titles with the Sitka High School swim team. In the ASAA High School Championships this past November, McArthur competed in each of the girls relay events, earning the state championship title in the 200-yard medley relay. McArthur also contributed to a second place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay and a fifth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Individually, McArthur qualified for the 100-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle race, earning a 6th place finish in the 50 free with a time of 25.09. The Sitka Wolves girls swim team placed second overall at the 2018 ASAA State Swimming and Diving Championships last November, despite only having six members on the team.

Throughout her four-year career at SHS, McArthur also earned state titles in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2017, 2016) and a team regional title in 2017. McArthur has 13 even appearances at the state championships, placing in the top-10 in eight.

McArthur plans to join her sister Whitney at UAF, who will be a sophomore on the Alaska Nanooks swim team in the fall semester. K. McArthur plans to study Fishers and Ocean Sciences when arriving on campus.
