Three from @NanookRifle Earn All-American Status

MORGANTOWN, W.V. – On Saturday evening, three from the Alaska Nanooks rifle team were named All-Americans by the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association and the National Rifle Association. Senior, J.T. Schnering earned three All-American honors while sophomore, Haley Castillo and freshman, Kellen McAferty each earned one.

"I am very proud of all them, they had an outstanding year and these awards are well deserved." Said head rifle coach, Layne Lewis on Saturday, "They have joined an elite group of athletes and are continuing the Alaska legacy of excellence."

In his final match as a Nanook, Schnering was named NRA Smallbore Second Team and NRA Air Rifle Second Team. To round out the evening, Schnering was named CRCA Third Team. Prior to this season, the Fairbanks local had earned two All-American honors in the 2017-2018 season.

Both Castillo and McAferty earned their first ever All-American honors. Castillo was named to the NRA Air Rifle Second Team while McAferty was named to the NRA Smallbore First Team in his first season as a Nanook.

The Alaska Nanook Rifle Team concluded their 2018-2019 season at the 2019 NCAA Rifle Championships at the West Virginia University. The team placed eighth overall and senior, J.T. Schnering placed fourth in the air rifle event.
