@NanooksRifle has Strong Showing at 2019 Winter Airgun Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado –
Three Alaska Nanooks competed in the 2019 Winter Airgun Championships in Colorado Springs over the weekend. The competition also acted as part one of the 2020 Olympic Trials.

Junior, Haley Castillo, lead the Nanooks with a two-day score of 1237.5, placing 25th out of 215 competitors in the ladies' competition. Senior, Amy Gentry, placed 41st in the ladies' competition, firing an aggregate of 1230.0.

In the men's competition, sophomore, Morgan Erickson placed 56th out of 146 competitors with a 1203.5.

"I am proud of them for going down to this competition and shooting shoulder to shoulder with the best in the country." Said Head Coach, Layne Lewis on Sunday, "All of them shot great this weekend, which is a good start to our winter break."

UAF Alumni and former Alaska Nanook Rifle team members, Timothy Sherry ('17), Matthew Rawlings ('07) and Sagen Maddalena ('18) also competed in this weekend's competition. Sherry claimed silver in the men's competition with a two-day aggregate of 1255.4 and a finals score of 142.1. Rawlings just missed the men's final, firing a 1245.9 aggregate, placing 11th overall. Maddalena placed 5th in the ladies' competition, firing a 1248.6 qualification score and a 247.4 finals score.
