FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team is set to host three teams in this week's Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational. Chadron State, Converse College and Lake Erie College will all participate in this week's tournament.

Last Time Out
The Alaska women's basketball team is coming off of a weekend split while in Anchorage. In game one on Friday, Nov. 22, the 'Nooks faced off with the Westminster Griffins and fell 64-84.
Sam Tolliver,
Jocelyn Gandara and
Kylie Wallace led the way in points for the Nanooks as Tolliver put up 16 points while shooting 6-13 from the field. Gandara put up 15 points while shooting 6-15 and Wallace put up 13 points, going 6-10 from the field.
Game two saw Alaska grab a comeback win over the Parkside Rangers 73-66. After falling behind at the half, the 'Nooks came out of the locker room on fire. As a team, Alaska shot 58% from the field and 60% from three-point range in the second half to turn the game around and grab the victory.
Tournament Field
Chadron State Eagles
Chadron State makes the trip to Fairbanks from Nebraska with a record of 1-5. CSC is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and is under the fourth year of head coach Janet Raymer. Raymer, a Chadron State alum, took over for her old team in 2015-16 after serving as a volunteer coach for a couple years. The Eagles lone win came against Texas A&M International on Nov. 8. CSC pulled out a three point victory, 66-63. After the win, the Eagles have dropped five-consecutive games including their last two to University of Nebraska at Kearney and Montana State Billings.
The Eagles are led in scoring by Taryn Foxen. She has started and played in all six games this season for CSC and is averaging 12.8 points per game while shooting 45% from the field and 33% from three-point land. Following Foxen in scoring is Jori Peters who checks in with 9.0 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Converse College
Converse College also finds themselves with a 1-5 record after six games. They won their season-opener against Queens (N.C.) 84-77 and have fallen in five-straight since then. This is the first season for new Valkyries head coach Jim Brunelli. Brunelli joins the Converse College coaching staff after six seasons at Gannon and five seasons at Anderson. Through six games, Converse is averaging 57.0 points per game, while shooting just under 40% from the field at 38.2%.
The Valkyries are led by Nigeria Davis on offense, as she is averaging 15.0 points per game through her five games played. Davis is shooting 69.0% from the field, all coming from within the three-point line. Ashley Sides is the next top scorer for the Valkyries, claiming 9.8 points per game through four games on 37.8% shooting.
Lake Erie College
Lake Erie College visits Fairbanks with a 0-7 record. The Storm dropped their previous two games to Roberts Wesleyan 71-79 and Indianapolis 73-80. LEC is under the direction of first-time coach, Kenzie Perttu. Perttu joins the Storm staff after playing four years at Michigan Tech University. Lake Erie has two players averaging over 15 points per game as Josie Chaddock and Breanna Bauer both exceed the mark.
Chaddock is the leading scorer between the two, averaging 15.3 points per game on 41.9% shooting, 38.1% from three and 87.1% from the free throw line. Chaddock has started all seven games for the Storm. Bauer trails Chaddock by only 0.2 points, averaging 15.1 points per game through seven games and starts. Bauer is shooting 50.7% from the field and 33% from three point range.
