RESULTS
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The No. 10-ranked Alaska Nanook team suffered their second loss of the season to No. 4-ranked Air Force Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 24 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Nanooks' record is now 4-2.
Head coach,
Layne Lewis commented, "We did great in smallbore today, it was our second highest score of the season and we were very close with Air Force in smallbore. We struggled a bit in air rifle but we learned from it and Air will be our main focus going into the winter break."
The Nanooks shot the second highest smallbore team total this season with a 2313. However, the Falcons squeaked past the 'Nooks with a 2320. Sophomore,
Kellen McAferty tied for the top smallbore spot with the Air Force's Peter Fiori, both firing 588. Junior,
Haley Castillo, recorded a personal best of 579 to claim the No. 4 spot. Seniors,
Amy Gentry (578) and
Grace Nelson (568) claimed 5
th and 9
th, respectively.
The Falcons claimed the air rifle competition, defeating the 'Nooks 2359-2331. Three Nanooks broke the top 10 in air rifle. Gentry (584), McAferty (583), and Castillo (583) claimed 8
th through 10
th.
Overall, the Nanooks claimed three top 10 individual aggregate spots. McAferty took the No. 2 spot with an 1171, just five points out of first. Both Castillo and Gentry fired a total of 1162 to claim 6
th and 7
th.
The Nanooks will be back in action January 11
th and 12
th at the Ohio State.
