2018-19 Schedule

FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will play on their home court 14 times throughout the 2018-19 campaign, as first-year head coach Kerri Nakamoto announced Alaska's schedule for the upcoming season on Tuesday.

In addition to its regular-season contests, the Nanooks will host a NCAA Division I opponent in exhibition action this season, as Alaska is set to host the University of Oregon Ducks on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Alaska Airlines Court in Fairbanks.

Alaska will head to back-to-back non-conference tournaments throughout the month of November, first taking on the San Francisco State Gators (Nov. 10) and Holy Names Hawks (Nov. 11) at the San Francisco State University Gator Invitational in San Francisco, California before facing Cal State Dominguez Hills (Nov. 16) and Cal State East Bay (Nov. 17) at the Seawolves Hoops Classic in Anchorage.

After a yearlong hiatus, the Mt. McKinley State Bank North Star Invitational makes a comeback at the Alaska Airlines Court this season. The four-team tournament hosted by the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will feature the Nooks, the University of New Haven, Gannon University and the University of Tampa. The Alaska Nanooks will take on New Haven on Thursday, Nov. 22 before facing Gannon on Friday, Nov. 23 and finally Tampa on Saturday, Nov. 24. Each of Alaska's games throughout the tournament will be played at 3pm AKT.

"We open the first three weeks of the season with three tournaments, which will give us a great opportunity to get a lot of game experience right away," Nakamoto said on Tuesday.

After the Mt. McKinley North Star Invitational, Alaska will play nothing but Great Northwest Athletic Conference contests for their final 20 games of the year. The Nanooks flip-flop between home and road games every week throughout the entire season with their conference-opener against Western Washington slated for Saturday, Jan. 3.

There is one Alaska Nanooks men's and women's basketball double-header on Thursday, Jan. 3 with the women facing WWU at 5:15pm AKT before the men take on Concordia at 7:30pm AKT. There is also one Alaska Nanooks triple-header this season, with women's basketball, men's basketball and hockey all falling on Saturday, Jan. 5. The tip-off times for the men's and women's basketball games are still in the process of being discussed, while hockey is set to take on Northern Michigan University at 7:07pm AKT at the Carlson Center.

"The GNAC schedule will be tough and very competitive," Nakamoto continued. "We hope those early, challenging, preseason tournaments will help prepare us for what we will face in conference play."

The 2018-19 GNAC Women's Basketball Championships will take place Mar. 7-9 at the Sam Carver Gymnasium in Bellingham, Washington and will be hosted by Western Washington University. To earn a spot in the GNAC Championships, the Nooks will have to conclude the regular season sitting within the top-six spots of the league standings.

All home games and conference road contests during the 2018-19 season will feature live video with play-by-play commentary and live statistics, available through the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal. Information on season packages, as well as single-game ticket prices, will be made available to the public soon.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team placed last in the GNAC standings last year with a 0-20 conference record and an overall mark of 4-22.
