Back to the Range: Lewis Unveils @NanooksRifle's 2018-19 Schedule

2018-19 Rifle Schedule

FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
On Wednesday, Alaska Nanooks rifle head coach Layne Lewis officially unveiled the Nanooks' rifle schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 season, which features six home matches at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range at the Patty Center.

After finishing sixth overall at the 2018 NCAA Rifle National Championships under the third-year head coach, Alaska will continue to rebuild off their returning roster and newcomers.

Kicking-off the 2018-19 season, Alaska will host the Ohio State University Buckeyes and the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers in a pair of Patriot Rifle Conference matches the weekend of Oct. 12-14. The Nooks will take on Ohio State on Friday, Oct. 12 at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range before facing Nebraska on Sunday, Oct. 14. Both matches are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. AKT.

After a two week break, Alaska will host Jacksonville State University Oct. 25, Oct. 27 and Oct. 28. Thursday (Oct. 25) and Sunday's (Oct. 28) matches will take place at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range on campus, while Saturday's match is scheduled at the Tanana Valley Sportsmans Association.

November will feature a three-match road trip for Alaska, as the Nanooks travel to the University of Texas at El Paso to take on the Miners on Thursday, Nov. 15 before traveling to Fort Worth, Texas to face the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs on Friday, Nov. 16. The Nooks will close out the road trip by heading to Reno, Nevada to take on the Nevada Wolfpack on Sunday, Nov. 18.

Following the holiday break, the Nanooks will face a busy January schedule that includes another three-match road trip. Alaska will face the Citadel Bulldogs on Wednesday, Jan. 9 in Charleston, South Carolina before heading to Columbus, Ohio Jan. 12-13. Alaska will face Ohio State and Ole Miss on Saturday, Jan. 12 before taking on Ole Miss and Akron on Sunday, Jan. 13.

The Nanooks will return to Fairbanks for their final two home matches of the season Feb. 2-3, as they host the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships. Smallbore will take place on Saturday, Feb. 2, while air rifle will be shot on Sunday, Feb. 3.

Alaska will head to El Paso once again, as the UTEP Miners host the NCAA Qualifiers on Saturday, Feb. 16.

If the Nanooks fare well enough, Alaska will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia to shoot in the NCAA Rifle Championships Mar. 8-9, hosted by West Virginia University.
