Box Score SAN FRANCISCO - The Alaska Nanooks rolled to their second-straight victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Holy Names Eagles 79-72 in the final game of the Gator Invite hosted by the San Francisco State Gators at The Swamp on the SFSU campus. Alaska improves to 2-0 overall on the season, while the HNU Eagles drop to 0-2.
As a team, the Nanooks shot 47.1 percent from the floor (32-for-68), 33.3 percent from three-point range (5-for-15) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (10-for-15). Alaska also tallied 12 offensive and 27 defensive boards for 39 rebounds total, while also collecting 21 assists, eight steals and three blocks.
Alaska was led by junior guard
Kylie Wallace, who tallied a 22-point effort against the Eagles. Wallace shot 9-for-15 from the field, 1-for-1 from beyond the arc and 3-for-4 from the free throw line while also chipping in three offensive and six defensive boards for a team-best nine rebounds. The Petersburg, Alaska native also added two assists in 33 minutes on the floor.
Senior forward
Ashlie Blackburn followed Wallace's performance with 17-point effort, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor and 1-for-1 from the free throw line. Blackburn also posted five rebounds, two blocks and two steals for the Nanooks in 20 minutes on the court.
Junior guard
Sabrina Ungaro posted a 14-point night against the Eagles, while senior forward
Marian Wamsley was the only other Alaska player to tally double-digit points on Sunday with 12.
Following the final game of the Gator Invite between the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves and the SFSU Gators, Wallace and Ungaro were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will continue nonconference play next week, competing in the Seawolf Hoops Classic in Anchorage. The Nanooks will take on the California State University at Dominguez Hills on Friday, Nov. 16 before taking on California State University at East Bay on Saturday, Nov. 17. Both games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Center on the Alaska Anchorage campus with tip-off slated for 2:30pm AKST.
