MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team bounced back after Thursday's loss with a 3-1 victory over the Western Oregon Wolves in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the New PE Building on Saturday afternoon. Alaska went 19-25, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-16 over Western Oregon to improve to an 11-12 overall record and 9-7 in GNAC matches, while the Wolves drop to 6-17 overall and 3-13 in league contests.
At the time of article, Alaska has sole ownership of the fourth place spot in the league standings with their 9-7 conference record.
"We knew going into today that we had to put pressure on Western Oregon with our serve," head coach
Brian Scott said on Saturday. "We did a good job of serving tough, which allowed for some easy reads on our block, and we were also able to capitalize with either a block or a dig. Our hitters did a good job of settling down after the first set and put swings in bounds."
Sophomore outside hitter
Lahra Weber paced Alaska's offense with a match-high 17 kills, posting only five errors off of 43 total attempts for a .279 hitting percentage. Miller collected her eighth double-double of the season with 11 digs, while also chipping in three block assists and one assist for a match-high 18.5 points.
Redshirt-sophomore outside hitter
Markie Miller was the only other player in the entire match to register double-digit kills with 14. Miller's .310 hitting percentage was the highest of any player who attempted more than 10 attacks, posting only five errors off 29 attempts. The Brewster, Washington native also produced seven digs, three block assists and one ace.
Sophomore setter
Cate Whiting led all players in assists on Saturday, collecting 45 against the Wolves. Whiting also tallied two kills, four block assists and one ace for the Nanooks.
Sophomore defensive specialist
Sarina Mancari posted a career-high 18 digs against the Wolves, while freshman libero
Makena Overbey led all players with a team-best 29 digs.

Sarina Mancari was especially good tonight, both defensively and in serve-receive."
The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team returns to the Alaska Airlines Court for their final two home matches of the season next week, as they host Saint Martin's on Thursday, Nov. 1 before taking on Seattle Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 3. Both matches will begin at 7pm AKT.
