@NanooksVB Rolls Past SMU, 3-0

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team triumphed over the Saint Martin's Saint on Thursday night, posting a 3-0 sweep in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the Alaska Airlines Court. The Nooks went 25-18, 25-20 and 25-17 over SMU to improve their overall record to 12-12 and 10-7 in conference play, while the Saints drop to 2-15 on the season and 4-19 in league matches.

At the time of article, Alaska remains in fourth place in the GNAC standings with a 10-7 mark.

The Nooks outdid their opponent in every major statistical category on Thursday, including kills (40-28), hitting percentage (.258-.126), assists (40-28), service aces (6-0), digs (38-28) and team total blocks (8.0-7.0). Alaska also produced a better sideout percentage than their opponent, going 37-for-56 for 66 percent, while the Saints went 37-for-73 for 50 percent.

Sophomore outside hitter Lahra Weber led all players on the court on Thursday, posting a match-best 15 kills. Weber only tallied eight errors off of 34 total attempts for a .206 hitting percentage. The Berlin, Germany native also chipped in a match-best four aces, six digs and one assist for a match-best 19.0 points.

Sophomore middle blocker Emily Moorhead had a night at the net, posting seven kills, one solo block and four block assists for 10.0 points.

Junior middle blocker Kim Wong also chipped in defensively, posting two solo blocks and one block assist.

Defensively, redshirt-sophomore outside hitter Tatum Upchurch led the Alaska Nanooks defensively with 10 digs, being the only Alaska player to register double-digit digs on the night. Upchurch also registered four kills and three block assists for 5.5 points.

The Alaska Nanooks will be back in action on Saturday, Nov 3, as they take on the Seattle Pacific Falcons in their last home match of the 2018 season. The match will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court at the Patty Center at 7pm AKT.
