#5 @NanooksRifle Breaks Another Program Record, Defeats #7 Nevada

FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
The No. 5 Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team defeated the No. 7 Nevada Wolfpack in Patriot Rifle Conference action on Saturday, downing the Wolfpack 4701-4646 at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range. In addition to the victory, the Nooks set their third program record of the season with an air rifle score of 2348.

"It's always fun to shoot with Reno and today turned out to be a good match for the team," head coach Layne Lewis said on Saturday. "This was our third match in a row over 4700 and we beat our team record for air rifle by two points. I'm so proud of this team, as they have come together and reset each of our three program records in one week. This gives us a ton of confidence going into our Patriot Rifle Conference Championships next weekend."

Senior Luke Johnson and redshirt-senior Sagen Maddalena tied for the top individual shooters on Saturday, both collecting an aggregate total of 1183. Both Johnson and Maddalena shot a 584 in smallbore and a 599 in air rifle to be the top shooters in each discipline. Additionally, Johnson's 599 in air rifle marks a career-personal best.

Alaska kept things rolling, sweeping the 1-4 in the individual aggregate categories, as junior JT Schnering registered a 1169 to place third overall, while redshirt-junior Robert Scott placed fourth overall with a 1166. Scott placed fourth overall in smallbore with a 578, while Schnering placed third in air rifle with a 592.

Sophomore Liam Eberhart placed ninth individually with an 1159, while junior Nathan Taylor rounded-out the top-10 with an aggregate score of 1159.

The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team will be back in action next Friday, Feb. 2, as they take on the University of Texas at El Paso Miners at the Falcon Rifle Range in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Nooks will continue their weekend stay in Colorado at the PRC Championships next Saturday, Feb. 3 and Sunday, Feb. 4 hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy.
