@NanooksSwim's Heaton Competes in 500 Free at NCAA Swimming Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Alaska Nanooks sophomore swimmer Cassidy Heaton is back in the pool, competing in two more events at the 2017 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships at the Crossplex Complex in Birmingham.

After qualifying and competing in the 1,000-yard freestyle event on Wednesday, Heaton was invited to participate in the 500-yard and the 1,650-yard freestyle races after posting NCAA "B" cut times in those events throughout the season.

On Friday, Heaton competed in the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries, placing 34th overall with a time of 5:02.73, only three seconds behind her qualifying and season-best time of 4:59.51. Heaton's quickest 50-yard split time was 27.10 and out of her 10 split times, Heaton posted three 50-yard times under 30 seconds.

West Chester's Georgia Wright won first place overall in the preliminary event, posting a time of 4:50.62.

Heaton will be competing in the 1,650-yard freestyle event on Saturday, Mar. 11.
