INDIANAPOLIS –
On Wednesday, the qualifiers for the 2016 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships were announced, which featured one athlete from the Alaska Nanooks swim team. Sophomore Cassidy Heaton will be the lone representative for the Nanooks, competing in the 1,000-yard freestyle distance race at the championships, which will take place Mar. 8-11 at the Crossplex Complex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Heaton's 1,000-yard freestyle time of 10:11.27 placed her within the perameters of the NCAA "B" cut, ranking 22nd overall individually event throughout the NCAA DII. Heaton's time was her fastest of the season in the event, which she completed at the Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference Championships earlier this month, breaking a varsity record for the program.

Heaton, Fairbanks native, has had a successful season with the Nanooks, placing in the top-five in almost every event she swam in this season and being named CollegeSwimming.com's PCSC Swimmer of the Week on two difference occasions throughout the 2016-17 season.
