FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
Alaska Nanooks rifle redshirt-senior co-captain Sagen Maddalena made program history on Saturday, as the Groveland, Calif. native registered an individual aggregate score of 1189 to set a new program record. The Nanooks posted a team score of 4678 to win their second-straight match, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes (4669) at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range on Saturday afternoon.

"We had some really great shooting from a variety of people on the team today," head coach Layne Lewis said on Saturday. "Obviously, Sagen set a new program record, which is really exciting for her. For it being so early in the season still, I'm happy with how the team is performing and hoping we can carry this into tomorrow's match against Air Force."

Maddalena's record-setting individual aggregate of 1189 was 16 points ahead of Ohio State's Joshua Black, who registered an aggregate total of 1173 to place second overall individually. Maddalena's smallbore score of 591 and air rifle score of 598 was the highest amongst all shooters in both disciplines.

Besides Maddalena, fellow senior Luke Johnson was the only other Nanook who placed in the top-five individually, posting an aggregate score of 1166. Johnson tied for sixth in smallbore with a score of 576 and also tied for sixth in air rifle, shooting a 590.

Junior JT Schnering placed sixth overall individually with an aggregate total of 1164, while freshman Haley Castillo collected a record day in only her second collegiate appearance with a 1160. Redshirt-junior Robert Scott was the only other Alaska shooter to place in the top-10 with an aggregate score of 1156.

Also of note, sophomore Grace Nelson recorded a career personal-best in air rifle, shooting a 591.

The Alaska Nanooks will conclude their three-match weekend tomorrow (Sunday), Oct. 15, by hosting the No. 6th-ranked Air Force Falcons in a match at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range beginning at 7:45am AKDT.
