SEATTLE, Wash. – The Alaska men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 8k Sundodger Open hosted by Washington University on Saturday morning at Lincoln Park.
The men's team finished 10th of 19 participants while the women's team placed 13th out of 18.
On the men's side, the Nanooks were led by
Mitch Burgess and
Keegan Rankin who finished 40th and 47th, respectively. Burgess ran an 8k time of 26:11 while Rankin completed the race in 26:16.
Kenneth Brewer was the team's third fastest finisher, with a time of 26:47 which placed him 84th overall.
Also scoring for the men were
Ross MacDougall (26:48), Michae Fehrenbach (26:53),
Daniel Serventi (27:19) and
Lyon Kopsack (27:51).
For the women,
Kali Striker was the team's top finisher with 53rd-place finish in a time of 23:32. Dorthy O'Donnell (76th/24:03) and Cheyenn Greenside (85th/24:11) rounded out the Nanook top-three.

Grace Weller (24:44),
Sarah Lilly (24:52),
Chandra Smith (26:00) and
Bente Heller (28:00).
British Columbia University won the open event with an overall score of 33 points. Nanook Great Northwest Athletic Conference rivals Simon Fraser University (B.C.) and Western Oregon placed second and fourth with respective scores of 54 and 163. Alaska finished in tenth-place with 260 points, just behind Central Washington University's 240 and ahead of Whitworth University (Wash.) who finished 11th with 266 points.
In the women's event, British Columbia was once again the Open champion with an overall score of 34. GNAC foes Simon Fraser, Central Washington and Seattle Pacific University as well as Whitman College (Wash.) rounded out the top five. The Nanooks placed 13th with 350 points.
Both teams next compete on Saturday, October 4 at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Ore.
