Alaska Rifle Rolls To Road Win At Nebraska

LINCOLN, NE - The Alaska Nanooks rifle team used a team score of 4680 to upend the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers by 85 points (4595) Tuesday, to remain unbeaten on the season at 6-0.

Although the Blue and Gold didn't set any personal or team records in the match, it marked the third time in as many outings that they combined for an aggregate score of 4680 or higher. According to head coach Dan Jordan they were “good average scores” but nothing extraordinary.

“To still come out with a 4680 is outstanding,” he said in an e-mail. “With the way people are shooting we definitely have the ability to break 4,700, which no one has ever done.”

The Blue and Gold shot a 2359 in air rifle. They were led by senior Patrik Sartz's 595 and followed by freshman Dustin Chesebro with 592, junior Cody Rutter with 590 and senior Jace Bures 582.

In smallbore, senior Billy Galligan tied Sartz and Rutter for the high score with 583, while Bures notched a 572, good for a team score of 2321.

As has been the case in the majority of the matches this season, the Nanooks' score would have been 10 points higher had sophomore Taylor Beard been in the starting lineup instead of shooting as an individual. She put up 585 in air rifle and 579 in smallbore.

The Nanooks, who are undefeated through four road matches this season, travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado on Thursay for a match against the United States Air Force Academy. Alaska easily topped the Falcons twice last month in Fairbanks at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
