FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team won their final exhibition game of the weekend 5-0 over Mount Royal University on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Alaska scored one in the first, one in the second, and three in the third to defeat the Cougars.
Jhett Larson scored the opener 17:55 into the first period on the power play.
Joel Lehtinen and
Linden Burrett tallied the assists on the goal out front off of the initial rebound. It took only 5:34 to score in the second period as
Simon Binkley tallied the second goal of the night. He fired a shot on goal from the halfwall outside of the faceoff circle and found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Nanooks put the game away with three in the third.
Jack Rogers scored the first goal 54 seconds in, making it 3-0.
Joseph Serpa and
Misha Danylov picked up the assists. Serpa then made it 4-0 on
Nathan Rickey and
Rylen Roersma assists.
Dominik Bartecko finished off the scoring 15:58 into the third. Serpa picked up his second assist of the night on the goal.
Inside the Numbers
- Joseph Serpa had three pionts tonight. He was the only Nanooks skater with multiple points tonight. He had one goal and two assists.
- Eight other Nanooks had one point.
- Tyler Shea had another strong night in net for the Nanooks as the fifth-year goalie made 23 saves for the shutout.
- Alaska went 2-4 on the power play tonight and 4-4 on the penalty kill.
- MRU won the faceoff battle tonight 34-28. Sam Elliott won seven bouts for the Nanooks to lead the way. Rylen Roersma won six of eight, winning 75% of his bouts.
What's Next
The Nanooks open the 2026-27 officially next week with Boston University coming to town. Friday and Saturday will be 7:07 p.m. starts at the Carlson Center. Fans can watch on FloHockey TV or listen for free on KSUA 91.5 FM.
