FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey program has announced the signing of Fairbanks local Simon Binkley. Binkley, a 6-0 left wing, has spent the previous two seasons with the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL after part of two seasons with the Vernon Vipers in the BCHL. 

"Simon is a player who understands what it means to represent Fairbanks," said head coach Erik Largen. "He grew up watching the team play at the Carlson, and we are so excited to have a local kid in our program. As a player, he is a hard-working, competitive forward who never quits. He creates offense through his work ethic, IQ, and defensive stick and can make subtle 5-10 foot plays. His elite work ethic and character, along with his pride in wearing the Nanooks jersey, will make him a tremendous addition to our program."

In 2023-24, Binkley skated in just two games for the Vernon Vipers in the BCHL. The following season, he took a step forward and saw time in 33 games while posting 16 points on six goals and 10 assists. He then made the jump to the QMJHL and joined the Moncton Wildcats to finish 2024-25. In his first 11 regular season games with the Wildcats, he posted a pair of points on two goals. He then skated in 14 playoff games and won the 2024-25 QMJHL Championship before skating in three Memorial Cup games. 2025-26 was a career year for Binkley as the forward skated in a career-high 60 games for the Wildcats. He also posted a new career high in points with 43. He scored 18 goals for the Wildcats and dished out 25 assists. Binkley also added a +18 and 38 penalty minutes. He skated in 21 postseason games for the Wildcats and had three points on two goals and one assist. 

Binkley is 6-0, 192 pounds and a left-handed shot.

Additional signings will be announced in the coming days and weeks for the Alaska Nanooks hockey team as they prepare for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
