FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks swimming team kicked off its season on Friday afternoon with its annual Blue/Gold Intrasquad meet at the Patty Center Pool. Team Gold claimed the 123-86 victory, winning eight of the 13 events on the day.

The meet began with a 200-yard medley relay, where the team of Monica Botha, Dorka Dancsok, Marilia Persidou and Sam Bristor grabbed the win for Gold, finishing the event in 1:51.70. Gold notched another win in the 200-yard freestyle, with Botha posting a 2:00.78 to place first. However, Blue would claim the top spot in the next two events: the 50-yard backstroke and 50-yard breaststroke, with Kitti Marton (29.87) and Mayumi Schaetzle (33.84) claiming gold in both respective events. Dancsok got Team Gold back in the win column with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a 59.77, and Mariia Sirotinskaia added another victory for Gold with a 26.05 in the 50-yard freestyle.

Cosima Schmiedel secured first place for Team Blue in the 100-yard freestyle (55.03), while Botha claimed her second individual victory of the afternoon in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.60). Schmiedel followed by securing her second win of the meet in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.85, and Zsófia Varga answered with a win in the 500-yard freestyle for Team Gold (5:26.04). MacKenzie O'Keefe took first in the 50-yard butterfly with a 28.77, and Persidou won the 200-yard IM with a 2:18.36.

The meet concluded with the 200-yard freestyle relay, where Gold once again came out on top, as Sariah Rodgers, Zsófia Varga, Mariia Sirotinskaia and Monica Botha placed first with a 1:46.01.

The Nanooks are back in the pool tomorrow for their Alumni Meet, starting at 10 a.m. in the Patty Center Pool.
