MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team fell to the Western Oregon Wolves on Saturday, Oct. 10. WOU won 25-18, 25-23, 25-21.
In the first, Alaska had 11 kills with seven errors, hitting .095 while Western Oregon had 12 kills, four errors and a hitting percentage of .190. WOU jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before the Nanooks stormed back with six-straight points at the 9-4 mark to take a 10-9 lead. WOU regained momentum, taking back a 16-12 lead. The Wolves then put five points together to take a 22-14 lead before winning the first set 25-18. In the second set, the Nanooks posted one more kill than WOU with 14 kills to their 13, but they surrendered four more errors, hitting .167 to WOU's .278.
Alaska held an 11-8 lead near the midway point before WOU took a 15-14 lead. The Nanooks bounced back to grab a 20-17 advantage, but after a 21-21 tie, WOU grabbed the set two win 25-23. In the third, the Nanooks held an early lead. The two sides traded runs but Western Oregon ran away at the end, extending their lead to 18-14 and then 24-21 before taking the set and win.
