Nanooks Pick up Win at Simon Fraser

BURNABY, B.C. – The Nanooks men's basketball team got back in the win column on Thursday evening, grabbing a 69-57 win over Simon Fraser on the road. The Nanooks improved to 10-9, 5-5 GNAC with the victory.

How it Happened
Tyriq Luke answered a layup by SFU's Mikyle Malabuyoc by knocking down a jumper, tying the game at two with just over a minute played. The two sides traded the lead six times over the first 10 minutes of action, with Davis Crilly and Jalai O'Keith hitting shots from beyond the arc during that stretch, but SFU built a cushion after a 9-0 run put them up 23-16. O'Keith ended the run by draining a three, and Mike Miller followed by connecting on his own attempt from downtown, getting the 'Nooks back to within one in less than a minute. Alaska continued its sharp-shooting by knocking down its next three attempts from three, with Crilly, Miller and O'Keith all joining in on the action to give the Blue and Gold a 31-29 lead with 3:04 left in the half. However, those would be their last points of the first, and after four unanswered SFU points, the Nanooks entered the locker room down 33-31.

Simon Fraser got the scoring started in the second with a made layup, but the Nanooks responded with three straight layups, getting two from Luke Fotheringham and another from Tariq Weiser to regain the lead at 37-35. Despite the Red Leafs tying the game twice over the next two minutes, the Nanooks remained in front, with a Luke three-point play putting Alaska up by three. A Miller three gave the 'Nooks a two-basket lead, and another three from Cortarius Mingo put them up by double-digits with just over seven minutes remaining. The Nanooks maintained a lead of at least five for the rest of the game, eventually winning by 12.
