FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks hockey team cruised to a 4-1 win over their in-state rivals Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Jan. 17. With the win, the Nanooks have a 4-2 points advantage over UAA in the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup standings.
How it Happened
The Nanooks struck first, needing just 3:43 to make it 1-0.
Misha Danylov scored on an early power-play opportunity for Alaska.
Rylen Roersma and
Hugo Marcil earned the assists on the opening goal. Alaska added another goal 14:16 into the first, this time from their captain,
Chase Dafoe.
Jackson Anderson picked up the primary assist and
Alexander Malinowski earned the secondary.
The 2-0 lead made it nearly through the entire second period, but
Braden Birnie redirected a puck out front of the UAA net 18:28 into the middle stanza to make it 3-0 entering the third.
Chase Dafoe earned the secondary after entering the zone with the puck and
Davis Borozinskis picked up the primary, firing the puck on net where Birnie connected. UAA got one back 3:44 into the final period. Jacob Terpstra scored, pulling the Seawolves within two.
Rylen Roersma would close the door 15:35 into the third, scoring an empty-netter making it a 4-1 final.
Jhett Larson and
Adam Cardona picked up the apples on the final goal.
Inside the Numbers
- Lassi Lehti was great in net for the Nanooks tonight. He made 26 saves, eight in the first, 11 in the second, and seven in the third.
- Alaska outshot UAA 29-27 tonight. They also outblocked UAA 16-11. Four Nanook skaters ended with two blocks each.
- The Nanooks won the faceoff battle 23-20. Chase Dafoe had a big night on the dot, winning 12 of 18 bouts.
- Chase Dafoe and Rylen Roersma both ended with two points each tonight. They each had a goal and assist.
- Alaska killed UAA's lone penalty and went 1-3 on the power play.
What's to Come
Alaska welcomes Lindenwood next week for a two-game series at the Carlson. Friday is a 7:07 p.m. start and Saturday is a 5:37 p.m. start.
