FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks women's basketball team fell to 6-17, 1-14 GNAC on Thursday, Feb. 20. They fell to Seattle Pacific 73-67.

How it Happened
The two sides were tied after the opening quarter before SPU took a four-point advantage into the locker room at the half. The Nanooks battled back to take a one-point lead heading into the fourth, but a strong shooting performance in the fourth from the Falcons helped them pull out the six-point win. Miranda Lomax opened the scoring for the Nanooks with a layup at the 8:41 mark to make it a 2-2 game. SPU quickly jumped out to an 8-2 lead but four-straight points from Destiny Reimers pulled the Nanooks to within two near the midway point. After trading buckets, Emily Freeman connected on a three, giving Alaska a 14-12 lead at the 4:15 mark. She'd connect from deep again at the 27-second mark of the quarter, tying the game at 19-19 heading into the second. In the second, Lomax gave the Nanooks the lead with the first bucket of the quarter. SPU responded with a run, taking a four-point lead. Their lead grew to as many as nine in the quarter, but the Nanooks scored the final five points of the quarter in the final 1:45 to pull to within four at the break. Jayda Van Dyke put up a pair of free throws before Lomax connected on a deep three with eight seconds remaining to make it a 36-32 halftime lead for SPU.

Out of the break, Destiny Reimers scored five-straight to give the Nanooks the lead. Amelia Brady added on, making it a three-point Nanooks lead. Following another Reimers' jumper, Bobbi Clark extended the lead to five at the 2:58 mark in the third. SPU answered right back, grabbing the lead, but Brady connected on another late-second shot for the Nanooks, banking in a three with five seconds left in the quarter. In the fourth SPU grabbed the lead back immediately. The two sides traded baskets with the Nanooks holding on to a one-point lead with 4:28 left off of a Jayda Van Dyke three. Nearly two mintues later, SPU took a one-point lead. They extended it to three before making it five with 18 seconds left. Emily Freeman knocked down a quick three for Alaska, pulling the Nanooks to within two, but SPU made all four free throws down the stretch to grab the six-point win. 

Inside the Numbers

• Miranda Lomax led Alaska with 17 points on 7-14 shooting. She went 3-6 from three, dished three assists, grabbed three boards and had a steal.
• Destiny Reimers added 16. The senior is now four points away from the 1000-career points mark. She's set to become the 19th Nanooks women's basketball player to reach the 1k mark. 
• Taylor Pilot grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. She went 1-2 from deep and added five points.
• Emily Freeman ended the night with three three-pointers and nine points. 
• Alaska shot 35.6% from the floor and 33.3% from three. 
• They outscored SPU off of turnovers 17-9, had the upper hand in second-hand points 14-11, and bench points, 13-4. 
• There were seven ties tonight alongside 14 lead changes. 

What's to Come
The Nanooks will celebrate senior day on Saturday against Montana State Billings. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m. AKST.
