Alaska Falls to Montana State Billings on Senior Day

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks women's basketball team held its senior day on Saturday afternoon, honoring Destiny Reimers, Jayda Van Dyke, Taylor Tiulana, Tristian Martin, Taylor Pilot and Bobbi Clark prior to the game against the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets. They would drop a 74-46 decision to MSUB and fall to 6-18, 1-15 GNAC.

How it Happened
The Yellowjackets began the contest with an Aspen Giese three, but Reimers responded with her own three on the following possession. After two straight MSUB buckets, Reimers hit a layup to make it 7-5. However, the Yellowjackets scored their next eight points unanswered, building a 15-5 advantage before Martin ended the run with a layup. MSUB ended the quarter by hitting a three, giving the visitors an 18-7 lead after one.

Both sides began the second cold, with neither team scoring for nearly the first three minutes. Riemers got the scoring started with a layup at the 7:08 mark before Van Dyke followed with a free throw and a jumper. However, a 9-0 Yellowjackets run would put them ahead 17 points with 2:34 remaining in the quarter. Van Dyke ended the run with a jumper, but another 7-0 run for MSUB saw Alaska enter the break trailing 36-14.

Martin, Reimers and Van Dyke scored the first three buckets for the Nanooks in the third, with Reimers' coming via the three-ball, but they still trailed by 23. Miranda Lomax and Clark would sink a pair of free throws each, and Tiulana drained a three, but they could not cut the deficit to within 20 and entered the final 10 minutes behind 57-30.

Alaska's first four points of the fourth came from the free throw line before a fastbreak Reimers layup and a three-point play from Martin gave the 'Nooks their first field goals of the quarter. Martin followed up her and-one with a three, while Reimers and Amelia Brady contributed layups later in the quarter, but the Nanooks still fell by a final of 74-46.
