Nanooks Fall in Game Two at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Nanooks hockey team fell to Lindenwood on Saturday, Feb. 15. The 5-2 loss drops the Nanooks to 10-12-6 on the year. 

How it Happened
For a second-straight night, the Lindenwood Lions picked up the first goal of the game. Patrick Schmiedlin made it 1-0 6:45 into game two. After holding the lead for almost the rest of the first, Peyton Platter struck for Alaska, picking up his first-career college goal 19:14.6 into the first. Adam Cardona picked up the primary while Kyle Gaffney added the secondary. The two sides went into the first intermission tied at 1-1. 9:09 into the second period, Lindenwood scored on the power play, taking a 2-1 lead. Ty Hipkin made it 2-1 Lindenwood before Kristof Papp scored the game-winner five minutes later, making it 3-1 Lindenwood 14:22 into the second. 

Alaska quickly answered back 23 seconds later as Fyodor Nikolayenya picked up his first-career goal, pulling the Nanooks to within one 14:45 into the second; the 3-2 deficit stood into the third. Braden Birnie and Chase Dafoe picked up the assists on Nikolayenya's tally. Unfortunately, Lindenwood tacked on two more goals, one on the power play and one empty-netter to grab the 5-2 victory. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Six Nanooks picked up a point in the loss. 
  • Adam Cardona posted his third point in the last four games and second-straight game with an assist. 
  • Kyle Gaffney added an assist, his 13th of the season. That total is a team-high.
  • He went 10-8 in the faceoff circle today to lead Alaska. As a team, the Nanooks fell 29-37 in bouts.
  • Nicholas Grabko made 17 saves in net tonight. 
  • Alaska blocked 11 shots. Broten Sabo led the way with three blocked shots. 
What's to Come
The Nanooks bus up to Sioux Falls, S.D., to face Augustana on Feb. 21-22. After the matchup with the Vikings, they'll fly to Long Island for their final games of the season on Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at LIU.
