Nanooks Take Down Nationally Ranked Augustana in South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Nanooks knocked off the No. 20/RV-ranked Augustana Vikings on Friday, Feb. 21 in Sioux Falls, S.D. With the win, the Nanooks improve to 11-12-6 on the year and drop Augustana to 17-10-4.

How it Happened
The Nanooks struck first in game one of the two-game series. William Lawson-Body found the back of the net 7:01 into the first while the Nanooks were on the power play. Braden Birnie played the puck towards the net, and after the puck popped into the air near the crease, Lawson-Body was able to play it as it landed into the net. Matt Koethe picked up the secondary assist on the opening goal. Nearly seven minutes later Augustana struck back, finding the equalizer 13:53 into the first on a Luke Mobley goal. The 1-1 score stood into the second until Carson Reed found the back of the net.

Reed tallied his first-career goal after entering the zone with the puck. He fired the puck towards a slashing William Lawson-Body from outside the faceoff circle, but before it found Lawson-Body it redirected into the net. Adam Cardona picked up the lone-assist on Reed's goal, the eventual game-winner.

The Nanooks managed to grab the victory after a lengthy end to the second period. 11 penalties were handed out with 1:50 remaining in the second, resulting in a stoppage of play. After coming out of the intermission, finishing the second, and entering the third, Augustana more than doubled Alaska's shot-on-goal total in the third, posting 11 shots to the Nanooks' five. Lassi Lehti stood tall in net and kept the Vikings off the board, grabbing the one-goal win.
