Hubbarde Secures Victory with Overtime Winner

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. - The Nanooks hockey team picked up their 10th win of the season with a 2-1 OT win over Lindenwood on Friday, Feb. 14. The win improves the Nanooks to 10-11-6.

How it Happened
Lindenwood tallied the first goal of the night, making it 1-0 4:11 into the first on the power play. Nearly 10 minutes later, the Nanooks found the equalizer on a Chase Dafoe goal. Adam Cardona played the puck to the front of the net where Dafoe redirected the puck into the back of the net, making it 1-1 14:06 into the first. Brendan Ross picked up the secondary assist on Dafoe's goal.

After taking the 1-1 tie into the first intermission, neither side found the twine in the final 40 minutes of regulation. Matt Hubbarde broke the scoreless streak with the game-winner 52 seconds into the overtime period. He scored from outside the crease, battling for a loose puck. 

Inside the Numbers
  • The game-winner was the 13th goal of the season for Hubbarde. It gives him a point in eight-straight games and 11 goals in his last 10 games.
  • He now has a team-high 22 points this season (13-9--22). 
  • Chase Dafoe follows with 10 goals after scoring the first of the Nanooks' two goals tonight. He is up to 15 points (10-5--15). Adam Cardona earned his second point and assist tonight, grabbing the primary on Dafoe's goal. He now has two points in the last three games.
  • Lassi Lehti was huge in net for the Nanooks. The junior netminder made 20 saves on 21 shots. He stopped six shots in the first, and seven in both the second and third, including multiple one-on-one saves.
  • Lehti now has a .928 save percentage and 1.93 GAA on the year. He improves to 5-2-2 this season.
  • The Nanooks put up a season-high 40 shots-on-goal tonight. The last time Alaska posted 40 SOG was March 7, 2024 (46).
  • Hubbarde's goal was the seventh unassisted goal this season for the Nanooks.
  • Brendan Ross now has 14 points on the season with three goals and 11 assists, the most by a rookie this year.
