FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks volleyball team (23-5, 14-4 GNAC) earned a sweep over Montana State Billings (2-22, 0-18 GNAC) on Saturday, Nov. 22. With the win, the Nanooks pulled even with three other teams in the GNAC to end the regular season as the 2025 GNAC Volleyball Co-Champions.
How it Happened
In the first, the Nanooks defeated the Yellow Jackets 25-18 behind 11 kills, five errors, and a .231 swing percentage. They kept MSUB at bay, keeping them to seven kills and errors for a .000 swing percentage. In the second, Alaska ran away with the set win early. They pulled away for a 25-12 set two win, making it 2-0. Alaska posted a dozen kills and just two errors for a .357 swing percentage. MSUB had just four kills and 10 errors, swinging -.194.
The third set went the way of the Nanooks as they claimed the sweep 25-17. MSUB had its best offensive set of the night, posting 11 kills and a .073 swing percentage. The Nanooks stayed efficient on offense, adding another dozen kills with just six errors and a .162 swing percentage.
Inside the Numbers
- Alaska paced the numbers all night. They posted an advantage in points 57-32, kills. 35-22, aces 9-4, blocks 13-6, assists 34-22, and digs 44-40.
- Elena Guc led the attack with eight kills, a .227 swing percentage, 10 block assists, and two digs.
- Elizabeth Jackson added nine kills while posting five kills (.556), five digs, an ace, and an assist.
- Cynphany and Mikala Henderson had six kills each. Cynphany had nine assists and seven digs with two blocks. Mikala finished with two digs, and one block.
What's to Come
The Nanooks have officially qualified for the 2025 NCAA West Regional Championships after being awarded the GNAC's automatic qualifier. The selection show is on Monday, Nov. 24 at 3:30 p.m. AKST and can be found NCAA.com. Alaska will find out who they play and where the regional will be held Dec. 4-7.
