PORTLAND, Ore. - Mikala Henderson was named the GNAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 20 following her strong week in the Nanooks' 2-0 home stretch. This is the first-career player of the week honor for Henderson. 

"What an amazing athlete," said head coach Brian Scott. "Mikala has the ability to create momentum swings and completely take over a match. She is an extremely smart player who konws how to score points with lots of different shots. Mikala is extremely good at taking and giving feedback to improve her game and the play of others around her."

Henderson was pivotal in the pair of Nanooks victories. The senior led the attack with a GNAC-leading 4.43 kills per set while posting a hitting percentage of .339. On Thursday, Henderson posted her second-highest kill total of the season with 18 while adding nine digs. Following that, she posted a 13-kill, 13-dig double-double in Alaska's four-set win over Central Washington on Saturday. Mikala Henderson has posted double figures in kills in five-straight matches, upping her season mark to 2.64 kills per set. 

Alaska opens up the second half of GNAC play on the road this week. They face Western Oregon on Thursday, Oct. 23 and will play Saint Martin's on Saturday, Oct. 25.
