Nanooks Fall on Home Ice to Visiting Michigan Tech

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks hockey team dropped to 1-4-0 on the 2025-26 season with a 3-1 loss to RV Michigan Tech on Friday night. Michigan Tech improves to 2-1-0 with the win and these two will face off again tomorrow night in the Carlson Center. 

How it Happened
The first period was even for the full 20 minutes, but it was MTU who netted the lone goal in the first. Jack Anderson scored on his own rebound after Lassi Lehti stopped the initial attempt. Teydon Trembecky and Ryan Abraham assisted on the goal 16:20 into the first. 

Both sides put up 11 shots-on-goal in the first and there were not penalties in the opening period. In the second, both sides had a power-play opportunity but could not convert as the 1-0 deficit remained for Alaska after 40 minutes. In the third, the Huskies found the back of the net again, only needing 1:20 in the third to grow their lead to 2-0. The Nanooks did not go away without a fight, however, as Braden Birnie tallied his second goal of the season 14:29 in. Peyton Platter earned the primary while Michael Citara extended his point-streak to four games with the secondary assist. 

Unfortunately Max Koskipirtti made it a 3-1 final nearly four minutes later, scoring on the Nanooks' empty net. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Lassi Lehti had another strong night in net for the Nanooks, making 33 saves. He made 11 in the first, 15 in the second, and seven in the third. 
  • Alaska put up 24 shots-on-goal in the loss. They blocked a season-low nine shots tonight. Peyton Platter and Carson Reed both had two to lead the Nanooks. 
  • The Nanooks went 2-2 on the penalty kill. 
  • Birnie is now up to two points on the season with two goals while Peyton Platter picked up his first point of the season tonight. 
  • Chase Dafoe dominated in the faceoff circle tonight, winning 16 of his 23 bouts. Rylen Roersma also ended up plus-.500 with eight wins in 15.
  • The Nanooks won the faceoff battle as a team, taking 36 of 66 faceoffs.
