FAIRBANKS - Hockey season is officially here! The Alaska Nanooks hockey team kicks off its season this Saturday with its annual Blue/Gold scrimmage, held at 7 p.m. in the Patty Ice Arena, with doors opening at 6 p.m. The game will be played in two periods with a 25-minute running clock.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks return to the ice for the first time after their 2023-24 season, which saw them go 17-14-3. The Blue and Gold ended their season on a three-game winning streak, picking up a road victory over Augustana and two wins vs. Stonehill College at the Carlson Center to close out the season. Alaska collected wins over No. 9/10 Michigan Tech, No. 20/18 St. Cloud State and No. 18/18 Arizona State during the season.

Returning Skaters and New Faces
Expect to see some new faces this season, as the Nanooks are bringing in 19 new skaters for 2024-25. Alaska is returning 12 players from the 20223-24 season, including Braden Birnie, Anton Rubtsov, Chase Dafoe, Kyle Gaffney and goaltender Lassi Lehti.

Skill Competitions
Between periods, there will be fastest skater and hardest shot competitions, as well as a shootout competition with all three goalies.

Skate With the 'Nooks
Fans are invited to bring their skates and hit the ice with the Alaska hockey team after the Blue/Gold scrimmage on Saturday evening for the first Skate With the 'Nooks of the season, hosted by the Face-Off Club.

What's Next
The Nanooks play one exhibition game against Grand Canyon University on Saturday, September 28, at 7 p.m., before officially kicking off their 2024-25 campaign with a home contest against Penn State October 5-6. These games will be played at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
