FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks Department of Athletics and Sports Information office has announced the addition of Alex Dean as the Assistant Sports Information Director. Dean joins the Nanooks after working the last year as the Sports Information Assistant at Elmira College.
Dean will assist Sports Information Director, Nathan Pearsall, with communications for all 10 sports programs while maintaining statistics and records for the Nanooks, assisting in department publicity and social media, website management, game and event management, and press releases.
"I'm extremely excited to welcome Alex to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Nanooks Sports Information Department." said Pearsall, "Alongside his passion and enthusiasm towards sports information, his strong work ethic will be a great addition to the department and I look forward to expanding the outreach of Nanooks athletics. I also want to thank the committee members who took the time out of their busy schedules to assist in the hiring process."
While at Elmira, Dean assisted in the coverage for all 15 varsity sports with primary coverage of men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, and men's volleyball. His game day responsibilities included maintaining and distributing live stats, creating gameday, final score, and matchup graphics while also creating and implementing motion graphics for video boards. Additionally, he helped manage Elmira College Athletics' social media accounts while providing photography and table crew assistance. Before joining Elmira, Dean spent a semester as an Athletic Communications Intern at Columbia University. There he assisted in website maintenance through bio and statistical updates, writing and distributing press releases, game recaps, and game notes. He also served as the secondary contact for Columbia's field hockey team and assisted in broadcast and video packages.Â
Alex Dean has also made stops with the Kansas City Monarchs as a Media Relations Intern and at Cornell University as a Production Assistant. "I'm incredibly thrilled to be joining the University of Alaska Fairbanks Athletics Department." said Dean, "I look forward to contributing to the great work that the Alaska Nanooks Sports Information Department does. I cannot wait to get started!"
Dean earned a B.S. Sports Media from Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y. in May 2020 before earning an M.A. Sports Communication from Emerson College in Boston, Ma. in May 2023.
His first date with the Nanooks is July 1.
